FAQs

A therapist can assist your child to learn new coping methods for managing overwhelming emotions. We can also assist families to improve how they communicate and work together.

It’s important to know that some assessment tools cannot be re-administered for considerable time and we want them to be at their best. Try to ensure your child gets a good night’s rest before the assessment. Bring along some snacks and a drink for during the assessment.

It can be difficult to talk with your child about having an assessment done. We’ve found that preparing them and giving them some information can help children to understand what we do and why it’s important. You could say:

  • At Windsor Psychology they see lots of children and adolescents
  • You will see the psychologist a couple of times and do lots of different activities. You’ll have a chance for breaks.
  • These activities will help us find out the best ways you learn, what you’re good at and anything that might be a bit tricky.
  • Some of the activities will be very easy and some of them will be hard. Everyone finds some of the activities hard and that’s normal.
  • You might also get to do something special or fun with the psychologist.

Fees vary depending on whether you are seeking therapy or assessment services and the qualifications of the therapist – please contact us for a current fee schedule.

We are not a bulk billing service and fees are payable on the day.  In some cases a proportion of the fees may be claimable through Medicare (referral needed by a GP or Paediatrician) or Private health fund.

Many private health insurers offer a rebate for psychological services. Contact your insurer for further information. If eligible you can instantly claim (in most cases) your private health fund rebates at the Practice via our HICAPS electronic claims system. You do not need to pay the full fee in this case; you only need to pay the ‘gap’ between the rebate and the full fee.

Our psychologists are registered with Medicare. If you have a mental health care plan for your child from your GP, you are eligible for ten initial Medicare rebated sessions per calendar year. Your rebates can be processed at the practice.

We are able to work with those under the NDIS who have self-managed or plan managed funding.

Initial and subsequent consults are 50 minutes, assessment sessions take between 1.5-2 hours each session.  Cancellation fees are applicable for cancellations within 24 hours.
